Minneapolis, July 11, 2006 – Greenspring Media Group today announced Nancy Benedict has been promoted to publisher of Minnesota Monthly magazine after serving as associate publisher/advertising director for the last five years. She becomes the fifth publisher of the magazine since it was launched in 1967. The magazine will mark its 40th anniversary this December with a special commemorative edition.
Benedict will replace Steve Fox, who has held the dual roles of publisher and president of Greenspring Media Group, the operating company of Minnesota Monthly along with 11 additional magazine titles and six consumer shows and events. Fox remains as president of the company, concentrating on new business development and strategy.
“This management change is a long over due recognition of the contributions Nancy has made in the continued growth of one of the most successful city/regional magazines in the country,” says Fox, who held the position of publisher of Minnesota Monthly since 1989. “Our last fiscal year was the strongest in the magazine’s history, with a 22 percent increase in advertising growth, placing us among the top five city/regional magazines in the country in overall ad linage. The credit for that growth belongs to Nancy and her team.”
A graduate of Concordia University, Benedict was formerly with North American Media Group as publisher of Cooking Pleasures magazine and with Pillsbury’s Consumer Publications group as national sales manager.
As publisher of Minnesota Monthly, Benedict will have primary responsibility for advertising sales and circulation along with management oversight of editorial operations. “My vision for the magazine is to ensure it remains the best read magazine in the market with the highest quality design and editorial content,” says Benedict, noting that Minnesota Monthly has been the top award winner in the Minnesota Magazine Publishers Association’s annual awards contest for the past 10 years.
“The ultimate goal never changes, and that is to constantly engage our readers with a mix of stimulating, lifestyle-relevant editorial content while providing our advertisers with a highly desirable demographic audience of the region’s top income-earning households,” says Benedict. Minnesota Monthly currently has a paid circulation of 65,000, with average household income of $157,000.
Over the next year, the magazine will be introducing several new departments and expanded editorial coverage of regional travel, local arts, health and wellness, and entertainment. The magazine is also launching a major initiative to move more of its content online while adding additional features which will be exclusive to its newly designed web site.
Besides her involvement with numerous trade and professional organizations, Benedict is currently the regional director of the Minneapolis/St. Paul Chapter of Fashion Group International and serves on the board of directors for The Arthritis Foundation and WAMSO.
Greenspring Media Group publishes Minnesota Monthly as well as several other magazines, including Midwest Home, Drinks, Real Food and multiple custom publications.
