Minneapolis, May 2012Periscope, a Minneapolis based agency, will have its design grace the cover of the June issue of Minnesota Monthly magazine. Minnesota Monthly challenged all design agencies with offices in Minnesota to design a cover that represented Minnesota summers.

The winning cover design was submitted by Periscope and titled, “Summer Looks Good on You.”

The creative statement said:

“It’s finally here, three months of summer. Long, sun-soaked days filled with endless possibilities. There’s no wrong way to wear summer. Kayaker? Sure. Expert gardener? Check. Professional lemonade drinker? Done. In the pages of Minnesota Monthly, you can find all sorts of new and exciting summer favorites to try on. With all the great things a Minnesota summer offers, one thing’s for sure, summer sure looks good on you.”

Second and third place honors go to:

2nd Place: Big Time Attic

3rd Place: Periscope

Minnesota Monthly Creative Director Rob Johnson said the selection process was very challenging. “Each of the three finalists had elements that made great covers, from the simple humor of Minnesota tan lines to the playful and frenetic energy of the Minnesota lake. In the end we felt that the “Paper Dolls” cover had the best overall appeal. It was developed from a really fun concept to great retro illustration incorporating a bright, instantly approachable presentation that really encompassed all there is to explore in a Minnesota summer.”

Periscope will be rewarded with the June Cover Design, and a $1,000 monetary prize. Periscope was founded in 1994 and is the largest independent agency in the Midwest.

The June issue hits newsstands on May 17 and features summer in Minnesota including the must do activities, drives, and eats for the summer of 2012.
